Special Tribunal For Lebanon: between theories and Realities

Perhaps the most prominent things that the Lebanese have occupied last month is the issuance of the Special Court ruling for Lebanon, which Lebanese are not convinced, highlighted their disappointments, 15 years after the opening of the file of former Prime Minister Rafik Al-Hariri’s assassination. But lawyers have another opinion. Here’s the most prominent of which is:
1) The Special Court for Lebanon is a special court that applies International Criminal Law and Lebanese Criminal Law.
2) The Court cannot condemn organizations or States but only individuals.
3) The financing of the Special Court for Lebanon is, in its most part, subject to external funding and not to Lebanon. The Lebanese state also asked the UN to establish the court.
4) The Court cannot judge individuals who are insufficiently well-established. And don’t forget! The accused is innocent until proved guilty.
